What carburetor model does the XU5 2C engine have?

Post by Jugostran »

Hey all!
So, I am getting ready to rebuild the Solex carburetor in my early 1989 BX 16 TRS. Trouble is, I don't know the exact model of the carburetor. That is why I am asking this here so I don't end up with the wrong rebuild kit.
The engine in the 16 TRS is the XU5 2C with 68/69 kw.
Thanks in advance for your answers!

I think it's either a Solex 32/34 Z1 or a Weber 32/34. IIRC Weber models have a tag that's secured by one of the carb lid screws which contains the serial number which you can use to determine jetting and other parameters. I have one going spare.

If it is Solex and the engine is the type 171Z engine, then it could also be the 34-34-Z1 PSA 464. BUT, the factory is well known for making substitutions outside of the regular bill of materials. The 32-34 and 34-34 differ only in the bottom gasket, I am told. The Haynes 1995 book shows illustrations of both Solex and Weber to help ID the unit you have, on pp 365 - 367.

FYI, I know of a BX with Solex carb made during the last production years that is supposed to have had the XU52C installed but its actual motor states it is a BDY - all of which were EFI motors, and so it is impossible, in theory. It is the original engine, BTW, and pretty much exactly as the XU52C anyway.

I have just looked up my rebuild kit, and it seems to be universal for both the 32/34 and 34/34 variants (it comes with gaskets and bits for both). Here is the link;
