Just a bit of added info on this; here in Oz I understand they are still available (which is logical see as how all 16Vs here were air/conned) but will cost you in the vicinity of A$2000 which tells you either:
(a) This one's cheap.
(b) We're getting ripped off over here.
(c) Somebody's gunna wish they'd bought it when they had the chance
(d) Bernie's gunna wish he'd never sold it.
As regards its interchangeability; the Condensor on an 8V version sits in front of the radiator but behind the front upper crossmember.
The 16V model due to the extra room taken up with head and intake plenum is forced to sit in front of the same crossmember with the result that the physical surface area is much greater on the 8V version so as a result, it would be great dramas to retrofit a 16V condensor to an 8V car. Not impossibly probably but not very feasible and for the record, the 8V air con is much more efficient than that on the 16V possibly for this very reason.

By the time you're old enough to know it all, you can't remember why you were learning.
