As far as I know it's the iron version of the XU engine block (used for the 1.6/1.9 petrols) so would fit in on the original mounts. Not sure whether the turbo would fit in the original location though...

My girlfriend has a 1.4 Xsara. The engine bay in one of those is more air than engine.... first time I opened the bonnet, I thought something like: "V8 lol !!eleventyone!!1!lol"

BXs have big engine bays.

jonkw wrote:It is something that I have often found strange in that Citroen gave us a 160BHP 1905cc engine in the BX, then it became 1998cc XU10J4 for ZX 16v and early Xantia, with 155BHP, then they junked it after less than 2 years and gave us the XU10J4R 16v with just 135BHP.
And an old tech 8v Turbo 150BHP replaced them and indeed was used in Activa, how odd.
Well the XU9J4 wouldn't go through the new emissions or wear a cat without some detuning. That resulted in 148bhp and the raw edge of the power curve lost.
So the XU10J4 in the ZX 16v was 155bhp.....an improvement, and even with a cat, the lowest output was 150bhp. It also had more torque and a much stronger bottom end. Plus it had a variable intake manifold, like an old Toyota twin cam. It was still shite, sadly.
Then they launched the XU10J4RS.....167bhp. The best PSA twin cam to date. The detuned and refined the XU10J4 and set it up for ecomony, before refitting it to the Xantia and XM.

The Activa had the CT lump in the UK because the 16v ZX lump was reknowned for being crap at this time. Plus, an Activa weighs as much as a planet, and the twin cam N/A lump would have no where near enough guts to haul it at any decent rate. Hence the turbo comes along.....bit of a rush job really, but basically a 2.0 XU with 2.1TD turbo bits and transmission. A strong engine, but nothing special (unless you play with the boost  )

It'd fit in a BX, just about and with the boost wound out it'd probably go some too. We put one on the rollers which pushed out 207bhp and 247lb ft of torque. That very car wasn't as quick as a 16v overall on a sprint, but in gear it would destroy it.

Probably be a waste of time and effort then Jon if the BX 16V offers ten more BHP?

YHep, it'll bolt straight in, but they have a worse drink problem than me, and a D6C is in another league altogether.

Now a T16 BX...........
