Wipers

Post by cpt_spalding »

Does anyone here have a favoured brand of windscreen wipers?

I've always found it pot luck on previous cars with various manufacturers. It doesn't seem to matter how much I pay there's always the chance I get noisy buggers.

I'm hoping you guys have been through this, done this, have the wipers T-shirt & are happy to tip the wink.

I'd be interested in the replies. I bought my xantia and the wipers groaned like no other! On failing to work out how to fit new ones I discovered they didn't have the correct adapters - just loosely fitted things - and they fell out when upright

Even after fitting the right adapters and new wipers they still groaned and failed to clear the screen properly. In less than one hours' use the wipers themselves fell apart so I refitted the old ones back.

Seems the arms have somehow twisted upwards creating a high resistance on the upward stroke, hence the groaning and skipping. Even with a heavy twist back to centre, the wipers themselves are contorted in the upwards position too. New ones should cure that but the pair I bought don't sit flat on the passenger side. :?

Surprisingly perhaps, I find Halfrauds ones to be excellent, if not a little on the juicy side, price-wise.

I swapped from nearly new ones because they were noisy and the Halfrauds ones are as quiet as a mouse. :D

I just came from there and saw a price that said "£1.99 each" or "£2.99 a pair" so I looked up the part number, found the pack and it was priced something stupid like £20, I don't know I was too flumoxed because the "£2.99" was actually for fitting

Agreed, used to use bosch which I found rubbish on the xantia.
Changed to valeo which were ok'ish but overpriced.
Now on tesco which are cheap and if they start to squeak or smear they get changed. At 2.99 for a pair of the big drivers ones its the best way.
I always have a spare set in the boot now because they are so cheap.
They are the only thing I buy in Tesco as I generally boycott them for being rubbish.

I went and measured the ones on the car - 2x18" on front and 19" on rear.

Which is 24" and which is 20"? Left and right?

Thanks for that. Changed the front ones today. £2.97 a pair. Work perfectly & completely silent. On top of all that i have a spare set in the boot. All for £8.91.

Thanks for the tip, Elma! :D
