Peugeot 406 HDi Estate. Any good??

Post by pug_owner2002 »

Hello,

I am considering getting rid of the other halfs astra so she can have my 306, in turn I am thinking of getting a 406 HDi estate.
What do people think about these? are they any good and what problems should I expect and look out for?

Thanks in advance for any replys.

Its French, i think that sums it up nicely, i'd buy Jap, & then u wont have to bother getting underneath the thing, alternatively if you enjoy doing that, then ignore my useless advice

Just out of interest, how much are they?

The one I was tempted to go and look at but then it sold was a 52 plate with 99k on for £2995, it was the HDi 110 with the LX trim. Seen others similar for that price region too.

Crikey, is that all they're worth??? Got to be a reasonable bargain that, i would take out an independent warranty that covers you for absolutely everything. They arent as expensive as you think, compare the price against the hourly rate at a peugeot dealer!!!!

Good luck with your decision. As an alternative, dont laugh, what about an Octavia, heaps better reliability etc....

I`ve had mine just over a year now.Its a 03/53 Hdi 110 SE est,my Dads old company car,now with 80k.Apart from wear & tear items,i`ve just had some problems with the anti pollution side of the engine management.Nothing major, just a few new sensors, although the garage reckon the fuel pump is faulty,High pressure pump under the bonnet.Although since they had the car again(free of charge)the management lights not been on & its been running sweet as a nut.
I`ve had to re solder the air bag connections under the seat,as per my old Xantia, but apart from that its a great car.I had it re mapped last year to aproxx 140 bhp,it goes like stink, still does 45 mpg +(51.6mpg coming back from Wales tonight) & tows our caravan great.
Its a great cruise car for the motorway, refind & low noise inside.Even better if it has cruise control like mine.
I would recomend getting one, plenty to chose from,110 better than the 90 bhp.Get the best spec you can.As mine was the run out model, before the 407,it has alloys, abs, bfd, folding mirrors, auto wipers & lights,a/c climate, half leather electric seats, sat nav, etc. Most of them from LX up have a good basic spec. :D

Just look at how many 406 taxis there are? Ive not yet met a taxi driver who likes spending money on repairs!

A friend of mine had a much earlier XUDT engined one, and it was THE most reliable car their company ever ran. It had a ride that would put a lot of hydraulic Citroens to shame. My only comment would be that it is a mile munching, relaxing car, and not very involved.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replys!
After scouting around on the net I think I'm going to keep my eye out for an SE model as it seems to have all the toys etc on it.
Got to admit I like the look of the half leather and the appeal of having built in sat nav (no more carrying the tomtom around on days out! ).

I'll let you know if I get one.

Thats good news then :D .
Mine has,4x elec windows,elec heated folding mirrors,digital a/c c/control,abs,16"alloys,half leather seats & steering wheel,elec in the front,although not heated.The drivers seat also dose`nt have lumber support,which tbh after a year i dont miss.Front arm rests,cassette player with 6 cd changer in boot,cruise control,puddle lights in the doors,sat nav,remote locking.
The S model does without half leather & front arm rests,& i think cruise control & sat nav were options.
The Executive has full heated leather, elec sunroof & head lamp washers.
Good luck & good hunting :D
Neil.

Well I've found an 03 plate se trim one with 84k on the clock for £4000, looks pretty good, just need to go and look at it.
NP, I have noticed that quite a few people with HDi's seem to have the antipolution fault, if you don't mind me asking, is it an expensive fix?
