C5 Rear Arm Bearings

Post by JT »

My 02 C5 HDI (85K miles) needed new rear arm bearings, as the rear wheels were starting to lean in at the top (one of them quite badly) and it was making a strange creaking noise when ever I hit a bump. Which on Irish roads is quite often!! I decided to leave it to my local Citroen dealer to do the job, 625.00 euro to do both sides, because I don't know what to expect after removing the pivot shaft nut.
I could have bought a repair kit from GSF for about 50.00euro but was afraid that when I got to the stage of taking off the pivot shaft nut that I would need loads of special tools to release bearings and put new ones back in.
Can anybody shed any light on this.
I am sure plenty of people out there in Citroen land have done this job themselves. I would appreciate any info, thanks.

Welcome J.T.

This is a very common failure on the BX and Xantia.
Have a look at this Japanese site for a description for the BX.

The Xantia is similar and hopefully the C5 will not be too different.
It's not such a difficult job on the BX.

Thanks very much for that ellevie
I have a good idea now what to expect if the bearings fail again.
