Post by ghaddon1701 »

Does anybody know if the balljoint protectors are available? I managed to damage one of mine. Thanks.

I was thinking as i read the OPs post that this is referring to the metal and later plastic shield that protects the bottom ball joint from stones etc which to my knowledge is not available in metal but is available in plastic, possibly from another model, maybe C15?

I was thinking the same. They're still available - suspect they're the same for 405 Peugeot as well? Didn't realise they'd changed from steel to plastic though.
I just ordered some from http://www.citroencarparts.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for about a fiver each - probably no cheaper than walking into a dealer, but postal service is handy and they're very helpful.

Kevan, lower ball-joints shields where fitted to all new BX's from new albeit manufactured from a thin tin sheet steel but if they got damaged when folks changed the ball-joints out they tended not to bother fitting them back in place.

However I my self have never knew that a plastic one was now available, I suppose its similar in a way to the front hub air scoops to direct air onto the discs as they where initially manufactured from a thin sheet steel which then got changed to plastic for the later production models !

There was some discussion a few months back as to whether these also helped protect the ball joints from brake heat as it seemed that the ball joints wore quicker without them.
