Ok mate I'll arrange to drive up there and take a look. I think 750 is a bit strong (and told him so on the phone) but in fairness he's comparing what he'd make if he broke it. As I pointed out to him though, they're now worth more complete! He's a sound bloke with a realistic head on so I think a fairdeal would be within reach for you.

This does look tempting, but Kitch, you feel the car has done more than 90K in miles???

Cheers

Oh yeah I think it's done more like 200k. I believe the engine was rebuilt or replaced 90k ago due to a snapped cambelt.

Wouldn't put me off....to turn down a good shell on the grounds of mileage would be pretty short sighted IMO. Not suggesting you are of course, just a general comment.

Hi Kitch. Thanks for confirming. I was just questioning it because the owner said 90K and you said much more, so I (and I'm sure I can't have been the only one) was wondering how much more?!

If the car had done that sort of mileage I would definitely be turning it down due to everything else having done 200k miles. My 145K mile golf is showing signs of wear and that's been looked after, let alone a car that's been off the road for 5 years.

Thanks for the info mate but I would have to pass on this one. Kind regards.

On a car that's over 20 years old, mileage really wouldn't be a concern of mine. Mechanical components can be, and likely will have been changed over the years. The only thing that really can't be replaced easily is the shell, so that's the most important aspect. Mileage bears no relevance on body corrosion.

If that's not your way of thinking and you'd prefer a low mileage car and may have a passion for welding then I agree this probably isn't for you.

I'm going down to see it tomorrow after work for Mulley, armed with a camera and my glasses  Quite keen to see it actually, if it's as good as it sounds.

Here's the 16v in question:

It's a good one :D

It's not mint, though:

A-pillar is good, but needs preventative care, along with a couple of other areas:

In short, the title of the thread is right.....it does needto be saved! It can't be me to do it (I have too many!), but it's FAR too good to scrap. The bodywork needs some paint in places and three of the doors are damaged. Nothing major wrong though, and you forget it's 22 years old! Also, I'm nigh-on certain it hasn't done 202k miles. There's talk of it having done 90k from the previous owner, though why it'd have a different speedo fitted I don't know. Steering wheel isn't worn, gearknob isn't cracked and carpet/seats are good. I'll eat my shoes if they've done 202k miles
Shells as good as this seem to be few and far between these days, and I started thinking on the way home.....when was the last time you saw a silver ph2 16v? I can't remember!

It was good to see Rich last night, i went out about an hour after he left and saw a patch of oil on the road where he parked the bx estate it did make me chuckle.

Ref the BX i brought it about 18 months and covered it over and used it as a shed up until about 3 weeks ago. I brought it with the intention of putting back on the road and bought the best i could find at the time, as it turns out the shell is pretty good and interior is good also. I will be putting it back on the road if its not sold and will leave ad on ebay then start work once it ends.

The first love of my life (except wife, children) is turbo charged volvo's, t5r's, v70r's etc, i have been extremely busy with these, doing restores and fitting st225 6sp gearboxes, fabricating porsche 4 pot front and rear set ups, custom intercooler pipework, custom intercoolers, just to name a bit, as well as looking after my 2 1/2 year old daughter full time and working from home. So its easy to see how the BX had fallen by the wayside a bit.

Most of the major work has now been done on the volvo's, so i now have tinkering time for the BX and i much like the silver colour, as my friend had exactly the same colour (i asked if it was his, i was sure it was). The mechanicals are a bit different for me than the normal, but i'm sure i can ask plenty of advise from Rich and you guys on the forum.

Here is a pic just for Rich which i'm sure will shock him lol
